Innovation Team Projects
In 2013, our Engineering team created a solution to move five large vessels from Duluth, MN, to Red Deer, Alberta. This shipment included one of the largest components ever moved by rail at approximately 200-feet-long and almost 1 million pounds! The team successfully designed and built a custom railcar solution for this move.
Our team moved passenger cars from Utah to Texas in 2017 (where you might see them along the rails in Dallas!). The passenger cars differ from typical freight and could not be moved on their wheels on freight lines. Our team of engineers worked together to deliver these passenger cars and with the success of that project, we built a long-lasting relationship with our customer and continue to work with the manufacturer today.
In 2020, our customer had a blade that was too large to move in traditional rail fixtures so we had to design a new system in order to transport their blades by rail. This image is from a test of the prototype this past summer. The engineering department is especially proud of this design’s success as other wind industry experts said that it could not be done.
