Primary Functions:
The purpose of this position is to engineer and determine solutions to projects that have been assigned and keep others aware of progress. This includes communication via calculations, drawings and other traditional means; learn standards and processes, and implements best practices for the engineering industry.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
Technical degree required in such disciplines as a B.S. in Engineering, etc., plus 0-2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Communicate with others verbally or by written means.
2. Confer with other engineers, customers, field personnel, project managers, and designers to assess equipment needs and to determine design requirements.
3. Engineer and design new and existing railcar applications. This includes modifications to existing railcars, securement of loads to rail cars, determining clearances and new railcar designs.
4. Perform complex engineering working design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support system development.
5. Provide documentation of design results. This documentation is in the form of drawings, reports, slides, graphs, etc., to satisfy project requirements. Documentation is to be self-checked for correctness and adherence to design requirements.
6. Designs are balancing design objectives such as cost, weight, size, complexity and versatility.
7. Perform calculations and can document the calculations.
8. Knowledge of materials and governing specifications for those materials.
9. Show the ability to manage task for assignments. This includes any resources provided, data file management, schedule, quality of delivery.
10. Learn about industry requirements (AAR, AWS D15, ASTM), equipment and the freight car industry.
11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
