Primary Functions:
This role is responsible for developing innovative engineering solutions that meet customer requirements while supporting the safe and efficient transportation of their products. The position works closely within a small, collaborative team and interfaces directly with both existing and prospective customers. Combining transportation logistics knowledge with strong technical expertise, this role delivers practical, scalable, and repeatable solutions. The ideal candidate brings a blend of traditional engineering experience and business acumen, including strong written and verbal communication skills, effective project management capabilities, and a high level of attention to detail and accountability.
Position Responsibilities:
- Partners with engineers, customers, field personnel, project managers, and designers to understand equipment needs and define practical, effective design solutions.
- Translate customer requirements into detailed engineering specifications and executable project plans.
- Lead and support complex engineering activities, including design, analysis, planning, testing, simulation, and implementation of solutions.
- Perform advanced finite element analysis (FEA) using ANSYS Mechanical to evaluate structural performance, including stress, strain, deformation, and fatigue across a range of loading conditions.
- Develop high-quality design documentation—including drawings, reports, presentations, and data visualizations—ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and failure investigations; leverage simulation tools to validate designs, identify root causes, and recommend improvements.
- Design solutions that balance key considerations such as cost, weight, size, complexity, and overall performance.
- Apply strong engineering fundamentals, including performing calculations and reviewing peer work to ensure technical accuracy and quality.
- Utilize knowledge of materials and applicable industry standards to support sound engineering decisions.
- Effectively manage assigned projects and tasks, including timelines, resources, data organization, and quality of deliverables.
- Build and maintain knowledge of industry standards (AAR, AWS D15, ASTM), equipment, and the freight rail industry.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field required.
- 2–4 years of professional engineering experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3–5 years of experience using ANSYS for finite element analysis (FEA), including model setup, use case development, and interpretation and reporting of results.
Experience in the rail or transportation industry is preferred
