Primary Functions:
The primary function of this position is to prepare accurate, detailed dimensional drawings for projects while ensuring full compliance with applicable specifications, codes, and customer requirements. This role requires a solid understanding of engineering principles and design practices, typically acquired through a two- or four-year degree or trade school certification in mechanical design, drafting, or a related field.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assemble drawings, packages, and produce complete drawing sets for submission to customers, manufacturing teams, or field crews, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with applicable engineering principles, design standards, and project specifications.
- Apply fundamental engineering concepts and discipline-specific principles (e.g., structural integrity, materials selection, tolerancing, load considerations, and safety factors) to support the development, review, and validation of drawings and technical documentation.
- Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to convey technical information clearly to cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and field personnel, ensuring alignment on design intent and project requirements.
- Stay current on industry standards, codes, and emerging trends, including organizations such as AAR, AWS, ASTM, AMSI, and others, and incorporate relevant updates into engineering practices and deliverables.
- Support problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts by identifying design issues, recommending practical engineering solutions, and contributing to process enhancements.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned, while maintaining adherence to engineering best practices, safety standards, and organizational objectives.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a two- or four-year college degree or trade school certification is preferred. Relevant practical work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- 2 + years of related experience in mechanical drawing or design.
- Proficient in Autodesk software 2D/3D products, AutoCAD & Inventor.
- Additional courses in mathematics, physical science or design preferred.
