Primary Functions:
The primary function of a Manager, Field Operations is to provide site level contractor supervision, guidance, problem solving and support for logistics center operations. This includes operational awareness of customers’ expectations, monitoring and reporting performance to ensure they are being met and exceeded.
This role requires collaboration across the company’s departments and suppliers to ensure the site is operating to design specifications, customers satisfaction is high and operational issues in the field are addressed appropriately.
Basic Qualifications:
A Manager, Field Operations will oversee the day-to-day operations of work sites including managing outside contractors and any BNSFL personnel to ensure work is done accurately and timely. Will be responsible for following work and safety specifications and must possess strong problem-solving skills. Candidates should be prepared to travel and stay on job sites for extended periods while working outdoors in all weather conditions. Adherence to safety policies and the use of personal protective equipment are essential. Experience with wind turbines, truck and rail transport and related equipment operation to facilitate operational efficiency and improve operational efficiency.
Position Responsibilities:
- Routinely communicate with customers and suppliers to ensure the adequate flow of information for optimization of site performance and monthly operations
- Develop, manage, and support timely report-out on KPIs for the Field Operations Department
- Identify needs or challenges and collaborate with leadership to optimize site and resources
- Grow a culture of service excellence, and drive continuous improvement within the site, resulting in site efficiency, customer satisfaction, and cost reduction.
- Manage BNSF owned equipment inventory ensuring all equipment is safe, operational and has passed any required inspections.
- Promote safe work habits in all activities for all on-site personnel.
- Operate systematic equipment safely and within guidelines and ensure all on-site personnel follow guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain diverse types of quality assurance documents (examples: inspection sheets, repair records, field reports)
- Work side by side with the contractor Supervisor on daily planning and ensuring a safe and clean environment
- Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly inspections are performed. Perform audits throughout the project.
- Provide Contractor guidance and support while unloading trains and moving components to storage (example: blue flagging train, crane doc, etc.)
- Provide Contractor guidance and support while loading components to truck (examples helping with paperwork and orchestrating the truck traffic, etc.)
- Maintain a clear line of communication and contact between Contractor, Project Manager and Senior Managers, and any customer site representative
- Ensure all visitors are checking in and going through orientation if needed
- Ensure all reports required by the site are going out in a timely manner
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience in the rail and/or wind turbine logistics industry is required.
- 2+ years of crew management experience preferred.
- Experience in managing supplier and/or customer relationships
- Ability to work remotely and independently in the field while managing constantly changing priorities
- Stellar organizational skills along with the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Willing to temporarily relocate within a 2-hour drive of the site is required
- Hold a valid Driver's License in good standing is required
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
- Ability to create, save, and manipulate text & formats in documents and spreadsheets in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and utilize Teams for meetings
- Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to fill out JHA/LOTO/Tailboard forms without assistance
Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required, a four-year degree is preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Regular travel to job sites and potential longer stays, with work in various weather conditions.
- Flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on project demands
